This weekend, the Boy and I decided to stay in T.O and play tourists! There's so much to do here, why go away to spend the long weekend?
Some of the places we hit this weekend:
CNE: Finally! After two unsuccessful tries, we finally went to the Ex. On iCoke night no less (buy 1 get 1 free admission). Roasted corn, Tiny Tom's Donuts and Corn Dogs! Yum. I'd never had a corn dog before, but my buddy read an article in the Star about a booth at CNE that makes the best Corn Dogs ever. He uses high end sausages and ships his batter in from the States. And it was goooood.
We also saw the Human Cannonball. I admit - I wasn't all that pumped to see this stunt, but damn! it was quite impressive. He doesn't just shoot 150 feet into a net. He shoots 75 feet in the air and then lands 150 feet away in the net. Which he almost over shot. Apparently, the human cannonball's sister was supposed to jump with him and land on the same net. But last week at the Ex, she shot into the net and bounced up so high, she fell off the net and onto the ground! Broke her arm in 10 places. Ouch!!
St. Lawrence Market: MMmm... perogies and potato latkes. Apparently, the stall downstairs in St. Lawrence has been named one of the best places in T.O for perogies. And they're right. YUM.
Latin America Festival: Mmm.. more good food. Tons of people milling around and lots of food stands selling Tamales, Churros, pulled pork, cuban cuisine, beans & rice, Empanades, tacos and more. We ended up sitting next to a couple that taught us how to eat Tamales (apparently, you don't eat the Banana leaf it's wrapped in. ha ha. Now we know).
Discovery Walk: I've talked about doing a Discovery Walk for a while, and this weekend, the Boy and I finally attempted to do one section of it. 3.5 hours later and we only finished 75% of that section. I think the whole walk will take DAYS to do. The section we chose takes place around the downtown core. We took a picture of the map on our camera and used that to guide us.
The coolest part of our walk was the fact that we'd stumble on all these cool areas that we'd passed countless times but never noticed. We went down side streets, around buildings and found little nuggets of cool T.O art. I've taken a bunch of photos and will post them soon. Let me see if you guys can guess where we are!
UT: Walking around the campus on Saturday we saw lots of new frosh moving in. Lots of them were with their parents, taking photos of the campus. Also there taking photos? Wedding parties. We counted 7 brides! I hope we get the same weather next year for our photos!
