Got the Keys?

Today, I had a meeting in Sauga that ended at 5pm. I was driving to my parent's house (my dad was making fish - yum!) and started thinking how nice Mississauga was. The big trees, the wide roads, the credit river. On my way there, I started thinking about what else I could do - it's not everyday I get off work at 5pm! I could go shopping at Square One, or maybe pick up some buns at Akko... or... huh. I coudn't think of anything else.

I started looking around me at all the other cars at the red light. All these people are on their way home. To do what? It's only 5pm? It's 2 hours before dinner. If I were downtown and got off at 5, I'd probably walk home. Take a nice long walk, window shop, maybe pick up some dinner, grab a hot chocolate. Or maybe I'd call Ness or GJ for dinner. Ask the Boy to meet me at a Sushi place with my cousins.

I think that's why I'm going to miss downtown so much. Living in Sauga, there's less spontaniety. I can't walk down a new street and discover a new cafe, antique furniture store or cool place to used books. There's less discovery in the suburbs. You go to places because people recommend them, not because you stumble upon them.

I am excited to move to Sauga. I love furniture shopping, picking paints and of course, planning all the parties I plan to have - Birthdays, BBQs, Game Nights!! But at the same time, I'm very sad to be leaving the city. I'm trying to adjust and I know it will take some time.

Bear with me - I think the next few months all you'll be reading about is renovations and me trying to wrap my head around being a surbanite. And i'm very sorry about the Sauga bashing. Out of all the suburbs around Toronto, Sauga is my favourite. And yet I'm sure in the next few months, there will definitely be at least one or two posts of me venting about living here.

3 days until we get the keys.
Deep breath.

Don't worry. Yes, it'll be less spontaneous and more driving and planning. But it'll be good times with Sticky moving out west too in 1.5 years' time! I'm always looking forward to the planned parties at our respective homes, planned and unplanned random dinners in Sauga, and planned Oscar parties (with my more smartly planned predictions).
