Give me Moore Benny!

Yesterday we painted the Living/Dining Room. Picking paint colour was easy because I found it online, on the Benjamin Moore site. It was recommended by some designer on Chum FM (they were talking colour trends on Friday during my drive to work) and it looks amazing.

I've never bought Benjamin Moore paints before and I know better than to try and match it with another paint company (darker? bluer? brighter?).

Another thing I learned this weekend - BM paints are only sold in BM stores. We discovered this after checking the Rona and Home Depot.

Anyway, bottom line - the paint is more $$, but the service is 10x better! The owner, Tony, took his time to recommend paint brushes, taught me how to hold the brush and HOW TO PAINT the cutting. He literally had me stand on a little step ladder and try out the technique. It made things MUCH easier.

He also asked us tons of questions before recommending a type of paint. Because we were painting the room that wouldn't have 'heavy traffic', he reco'd the eggshell finish. Because we were using a dark colour AND we were covering a darker colour (Bright CORAL PINK), he reco'ed we use the Aura paint. It was top of the line ($67!!) but it would mean we didn't need a primer and we may even get it done with ONE coat.

Considering we needed to re-paint certain areas in our bedroom (and that was DARK green over baby blue, with 1 coat paint from Behr), we were a little skeptical. But we went with the Aura paint to elimiate the primer.

Amazingly, the Aura paint did the job in ONE COAT. And we ended up using WAY less paint. For the entire room, we used 3/4 of a can! Based on the amount of paint we used for the bedroom, we figured we need at least 1.5 cans of paint.

So each can costs more, but we ended up using less of it. $67 for 1 can of Aura vs $84 for 2 cans of Behr. Nice.
And the colour? AWESOME! It dried exactly like the sample. No stress, no doubts, no worries.

We're going to pick all our paints from Benny Moore and Tony's going to be our new best friend. :)
