Every year, I go to the Home Opener with my cousins. I can't even remember when this tradition started. Anyway, this year, because of me, we didn't go. As always, I sent out a mass email in January to confirm attendance (I don't know why I do this.. who plans things that far in advance? Of course everyone can go) and then I buy tickets. Except this year, I procrastinated. Though I had confirmation from everyone in JANUARY, I only tried to buy the tickets after returning from HK. And it was sold out - AI YA!! So instead, I got us all tickets for Sunday's game. At least it's still the home opener weekend.
Something I found very shifty -
When I purchase Sunday's game, I was told about some great value packs. And, if I purchased one, I'd be allowed to buy tickets to the Home Opener. Which confused me. Isn't the Home Opener Sold Out? Apparently, it IS sold out to the public. But they save a big chunk of tickets to offer to people who buy value packs. I think that's unfair. And yet, it worked. Because I ended up buying a value pack and was 'allowed' to buy a max of 2 tickets to the Home Opener.
So even though I suck and was late getting the tickets, I still got to go.
And what a game it was!!
Every year, I find the Jays crowd at the Home Opener the loudest of the entire year. But this year it was even better. I knew that this was going to be an energized game as soon as I stepped off the subway. The station was a mad house! And just like at Leaf games, practically EVERYONE was wearing a team jersey or cap (that's when I immediately unzipped my jacket to display my jersey underneath. Not my birthday present, but the original one with the old school font and logo. Which was perfect as it was Flashback Fridays and the Jays were wearing old uniforms, too!)!!
The place was absolutely wild! And for once, we totally outnumbered the BoSox fans. And we jeered them - we all chanted 'take them out' until security had to intervene. We sat near Manny and constantly screamed 'Maaaaannnny' (I should mention this was about 3 sections doing it at the same time). And it must have rattled him. He struck out and he let a couple of balls get past him. Awesome. I think my favourite was this one guy who blamed Manny for everything. A Jay would strike out. He'd yell, 'I hate you Manny!'. A Jay would pop up to second. He'd yell at Manny. It was hilarious (note: Manny plays Left Field).
I can't wait for Sunday's game. The only problem - you know there will be lots of kids there. Which means less heckling. And more suburban families. Darn. Friday games are the best - because almost everyone is from T.O and you know they just all came from the bar. ha ha. Loud, rowdy and very pumped.
GO JAYS GO!!
