(no worries, no spoilers)
I went to see Indiana this weekend with my family and was terribly disappointed. It wasn't just bad. It was horribly bad.
I understand that in all Indy movies there is an element of 'magic' and 'wonderment' where we must suspend reality in order to enjoy the movie. However, at least the other movies made the extraordinary seem plausible. Remember when they jumped out of a plane in 'Temple of Doom' with a raft, slide down a mountain and then into a watery canyon because they had 'no more parachutes'? Made sense to me - I was totally in for the ride.
But this was just ridiculous through and through. My feelings for the movie went like this:
1) Muchos excitement and anticipation for the past week or so (mainly because City TV has been airing the old Indy movies).
2) Humming the theme song all through dinner before the movie.
3) Movie starts and I begin trying to accept some of the absurd events happening on screen.
4) Realizing I am watching a 'cartoon'. Because only in a cartoon would some of these things make sense.
5) Wondering if this is a joke.
6) As the movie ended, I felt the theme song was played just to mock us.
7) Wondered how it was possible George Lucas released this movie. Didn't he watch it before it went to distribution?
8) Thought about the new Star Wars trilogy and realized that GL can no longer be trusted.
9) Wondered how it was possible Steven Spielburg released this movie. Didn't he watch it before it went into distribution?
I left the theatre in a hurry and the next day hit Pac Mall to pick up the first three Indy movies. Watched snippets from all three, hoping to forget the monstrosity that is Indy 4.

actually i didn't think it was THAT bad. It was vintage indy in so many ways, a ridiculous storyline, indy fighting off everyone, caves, indy figuring everything out in a matter of minutes, indy humour! The only thing i wasn't down for was transformer boy swinging from the trees. It was a bit over the top, even for an indian jones movie, but i thought it was entertaining. Better then temple of doom, with ...um... plausible hearts being ripped out of ppls chests..and the horrible shrieking lady in it, but not as good as raiders and of course The Last Crusade. I've been hearing a lot of ppl didn't like it, but its indy, its realistic stupid. Maybe everyone was expecting another Last crusade, which is light years better then all the other movies, but i thought it was fun and didn't take itself too seriously.

With your blog entry and GJ's similar comment that the movie is horrible, I went into the theatre with very low expectations. I have to thank both of you, cause with the low expectations, I found it entertaining. Even my dad enjoyed it for father's day.
