Walking Home

The other day I was thinking of excuses as to why I should skip the gym, because I wanted to curl up on the couch, drink hot chocolate and watch a movie I just purchased. I decided to compromise - I would watch the movie, after I walked an hour around downtown - stopping by a place that serves really good hot chocolate.

As I walked around UT, it reminded me how much I missed doing this. I used to walk around all the time when I was in University (mainly because I didn't have a metro pass). And I was much fitter than. I didn't go to the gym then, but I walked everywhere! When living at the PYG house, I'd walk 15 minutes to class. With about 2 classes a day, I'd walk 1 hour a day (I always walked home between classes). And then there were the days I'd walk from Havana to class. I'd even walk to the Eaton Centre. So on average - 1 hour a day of walking, every day!

No wonder I'm out of shape. I now walk about 10 minutes a day outside. Mainly because I catch the streetcar to the subway. But that's about to change.

1) Must not take streetcars to subway = 15 minutes (there and back)
2) Get off subway 7 stops early and walk = 1 hour

Not bad. On Monday I did the 1 hour walk home and it was fun! Mainly because I stopped to buy myself the Cosby Show Season 4 DVD. :) I also stopped to pee. So I guess I only walked 50minutes. Still, not bad!

If it doesn't rain, I'm planning to walk again tonight. With 3 stops:
1) Clothing Store
2) Grocery Store
3) pee

All this walking will be good for my health - though potentially bad for my wallet!
