It's been quite some time since I've been able to write in this blog.. so busy!! But lukily, I'm officially on vacay now and can catch up on all those things I've been neglecting (like laundry). A couple of things/thoughts since my last entry:
1) My wonderful buddies gave me a surprise 80's party!! The Boy and Poon were both instrumental in organizing the affair and the were concerned that they would be the only ones dressed up. No worries. I've got very, very enthusiastic friends who are great sports! I can't believe how funny and cool we all looked. I so love all the excess of the 80's - big hair, bigger shoulder pads, way too much make up and crazy jewellery. I admit that I'm quite pleased that there's a bit of an 80's comeback in fashion right now. I always felt I missed it in the 80's (I didn't take an interest in clothes until I was 11, and by then it was already '88).
2) I went to a Jays game vs. the Yanks and we sooo kicked ass!! I was unfortunately working late and couldn't escape until 8:20 that night. When I arrived at the game at 8:45, I was afraid I'd missed everything. Lukily, my boys scored run after run, and delayed the game so much that I still got to see over an hour of the game. YAY!! The seats were great and the entire area around us was full. Which was good - as the Boy had to sit there by himself for an hour and a half by himself. At least the seats around him were full. Thanks again to the Panda Potluk crew!!
3) Venues - We've been visiting venues every weekend, and it's starting to get a little stressful. I would love to get married in September, but most places are already booked!! I was surprised to discover this, as I figured most people would like to get married in the spring or summer. However, I guess all the hot and humid days of summer have started to turn people off - like me. When I was younger, I always wanted to get married in July. And now, my first choice is September or early October. I cannot even imagine standing in a heavy dress in 30C, 35C with humidity. Some people are great with the heat. I would always rather be a little colder than a little hotter (that's why I could never live in HK). So here's hoping I get a venue soon, with a date set in September, and 21C weather next year (no rain, too). I'm asking a lot, I know. :)
4) I'm on vacation!! During the past few weeks, the thought that I was going to be off soon was the only thing that was getting me through the days. So busy!! I kinda feel bad leaving, but I have to let that go. There's never a good time to go on vacay. Anyway, my lazy week off is already filled to the brim! Shopping in Buffalo, spa day with Ding and Mom, staying overnight at Wasaga and visiting the Boy's fam in Owen Sound. I'm going to make sure I get a couple of hours on Friday, Sat and Sun where I just veg. Sometimes I find that to be the best vacation - when I'm not doing anything.
5) I took a cooking class last week and learned how to make jerk chicken, fried coconut shrimp (lukily, it didn't taste like coconuts! The flakes were just used for texture) and yummy fried bananas. Tasty!! The chef also taught us how to use our knives properly, how to debone a chicken and to keep seasoning throughout the cooking process. The best part? We all got to eat what was cooked. YUM! I've taken a class before at Loblaws, but I reco taking the ones offered at actual cooking schools - you get much more out of the class.
And I think that's all for now!! Sorry for being so out of the loop lately. I promise to catch up with you all soon!
